Thank you for visiting the website of Christian Heritage Classical School. We are excited to share what God is doing here at CHCS, so enjoy our website and social media, but we would also like to speak with you in person so feel free to call anytime so we can get to know you!
As a classical, Christ-centered school, CHCS is one of a few hundred schools over the world that is blessed to celebrate God's truth, beauty, and goodness through the study of science, math, the humanities, the fine arts, and athletics. The integration of faith and learning is what we refer to as Christian Worldview. What does God have to say about...everything???...is the question our teachers lead our students in answering through Socratic dialogue and the study of logic and rhetoric.
The three tenets of classical education are grammar, logic, and rhetoric. Grammar (4K-5th grade) refers to the basic knowledge of each subject. Logic refers to the understanding or the logical way to understand things. Rhetoric refers to the wisdom and ability to write and speak persuasively about what you know and understand.
These three components of classical education are known as the trivium, which means "three roads". This teaching practice can be traced back to the medieval time period, but I would say they are present in scripture as well:
Proverbs 1:1-7 reads,
"The proverb of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:
To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth- Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, to understand a proverb and a saying, the works of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. "
When a school teaches its students to know, to understand, and to seek wisdom, God is glorified and the student is blessed. As parents seek to raise their children in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord", a classical, Christ-centered education helps in this beautiful and challenging endeavor.
Looking forward to visiting with you soon!
